This piece represents the feeling after a birthday party. The juxtaposition between the baby and the clock demonstrates the ephemeral nature of childhood. The figures in the painting demonstrate a range of emotions, suggesting that although the figures form a close community, everyone has a different reaction to aging. The red letters in the birthday sign represent childhood energy, but they also remind the viewer that time is running out. The second figure to the right depicts myself, while the melting clock (inspired by Salvador Dalí’s “Persistence of Memory”) encircles my head like a halo of minutes, frantically whirling past.
